Our Apple iPhone XS Review

The iPhone XS takes all the best features of the iPhone X and expands upon them to create the ultimate iOS smartphone, offering a premium and precise experience. With the XS, Apple has taken this design and made it into its mainline iPhone look.

iPhone XS Display

The XS retains the stunning OLED display that was debuted with the standard X. This Super Retina screen (as Apple are calling it) remains the most impressive part of the phone, with the display stretching all the way to the edges - a must for premium smartphones in 2018.

The 5.8-inch display found here offers 458 pixels per inch, meaning that colours and blacks pop in a way you won't be able to take your eyes off. Plus, the lack of any bezels (barring the “notch”, which returns) means the device is not much bigger than the standard iPhone 8.

iPhone XS Camera

The dual-camera system has been improved when compared to the iPhone X, offering smart technology that learns how you use your camera and adapts. This Smart HDR technology offers new photo opportunities, with subjects in motion becoming viable targets for photos and shadows making the results more dynamic.

With the iPhone XS, photos with have more background detail than ever, with the ability to blur the back or foreground. Plus, the new Depth Control allows you to edit the depth of field either before or after you’ve taken the photo.

iPhone XS Design

The XS features a similar design to the previous model, but has been improved to make it much more sturdy than before. The display uses extremely durable glass that’s more difficult to break in the event of drops and the stainless steel band gives the phone a sleek shine (though you really should pair it with a case).

The phone is also more resistant to dust and water than before, meaning it’s a phone you won’t be tip-toeing around. The XS is available in 3 different colours - Silver, Space Grey and Gold - so there’s a style for all users.

iPhone XS Performance

The XS includes Apple’s brand new A12 Bionic chip, meaning it’s faster and more powerful than ever before. This chip features a next-level intelligence that learns how you use your phone to make it easier for you. From photos and gaming to AR activities, the A12 delivers performance you won’t believe.

Battery life is also much improved. XS users can expect to use up to 50% less power than the iPhone X thanks to 4 efficiency cores, making day-to-day use easier. You’ll also be able to run and switch between apps up to 15% faster than the iPhone X.

iPhone XS Features

The iPhone XS runs on Apple’s famous iOS mobile operating system. iOS is an easy to use and functional OS that offers fast performance and unique features. Once you’ve used it, you won’t be able to go back. iOS also pairs with your other Apple devices to create a ubiquitous experience.

The App Store allows you to access thousands of different games and apps, no matter what your interests are. With the power of the iPhone XS, the latest high-powered games and AR experiences will run quicker and you’ll be able to switch between them in the blink of an eye.

How much is the iPhone XS?

The iPhone XS is a premium phone and it comes from a company that charges higher than most. Buying one from Apple outright will cost you £999 for the 64GB version, and over £1300 for the 512GB version. Because of this, it’s recommended that you pick it up as part of a contract, as you’ll be able to stretch out the cost and combine it with your data, texts and calls.

iPhone XS Our Verdict

The iPhone XS delivers the hyper-polished experience we’ve come to expect from Apple, with a dazzling display, faster performance and other finishing touches that make it a superior smartphone than the standard X.
